Advertising in Google Adwords has been the most lucrative form of online advertising never seen since the birth of the Internet. It is instantaneous and you could receive sales minutes after you finalized your campaign. Adwords guru, Perry Marshall, calls it as “the fastest crash course on true, real-life, street-level direct marketing”.

It is the only online advertising mode where you can generate traffic to your website within 10 minutes of campaign, to millions of targeted traffic from a minimum advertising budget of just $5.

Pioneered by Overture (formerly Goto.com, now known as Yahoo! Search Marketing), it was not known to many until Google use this campaign as an advertising medium. Creating campaign is a process and is not for everyone. You need to use some keyword search tool and campaign analysis and techniques in your campaign before you can be successful in this venture.

Google Adwords Defined:

Adwords advertising is a text link ads you can see as “sponsored ads” located at the top or just a text block at the right – of your Google search results whenever you search for some products or services. Also known as pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, bidders can then bid on a cost per million (CPM) basis for block advertisements. Your advertisement will then be shown to the content network site know as Adsense, the other side of Google advertising model.

3) Exact Match : Brackets are used to emphasize the search. When you campaign for [online dating], it will show up on the search without any other terms in the query. It will not show up when someone search for “online dating resources” or “online dating guides”. You will receive the most clicks even though you will receive fewer impressions for this search.

4) Negative Keywords : When your keyword is “online dating” and you add negative keyword -guide, your ad will not appear when someone search for “online dating guide”. You can apply this option at both Ad Group and campaign level.

The concept of Adwords is very simple, yet, very complex and tricky. What you believe is your best campaign could be your worst keyword campaign. So, take time to muster the art of proper keyword marketing, do proper research, take advise, read reports, buy ebooks about Adword guides, implement it, learn from your mistakes and you will see success in the long run.

GOOD NEWS – CONDITIONS RESEMBLE 1973-74! December 5, 2008.

The recession of 1974-75 was the worst since the 1930s Great Depression. The 1973-74 bear market in anticipation of that recession was the worst bear market since that of the 1929-32 bear market (which led to the Great Depression). The mid-1970s were indeed a miserable period.

So how can it be good news that the prospects for the current recession, and the current bear market, resemble those of that period?

Because there are an increasing number of pundits predicting this economy is headed down into a second Great Depression, and that the current bear market will need to be as severe as that of 1929-32 (a decline of 90% by the Dow) in order to factor in that disaster.

But that is highly unlikely, and Ill tell you why.

In my 1999 book Riding the Bear How to Prosper in the Coming Bear Market, I did compare the 1999 market bubble, particularly in the Nasdaq, to the 1929 market bubble, and predicted the subsequent bear market (which turned out to be the 2000-2002 bear) would be the worst since that of 1929-32.

I made that comparison that time because the market of the 1990s had been so similar to that of the 1920s. Both had been preceded by a record bull market lasting almost 10 years, during which, without periodic corrections to relieve them,the excesses of stock overvaluations and investor euphoria had gotten wildly out of control.

In both eras the thought that it was a new era, in which bear markets were a thing of the past, was inspired by a historical technological breakthrough that made such thinking seem reasonable. In the 1920s it was the introduction of electricity into homes and factories. That made for significant increases in factory and office productivity, resulting in thousands of new products being introduced, and exciting new start-up companies to produce them.

In the 1990s it had been the introduction of powerful and inexpensive computers, automation products, and the Internet. That also made for significant increases in factory and office productivity, resulting in thousands of new products and services being introduced, and exciting new start-up companies to produce them.

So in both eras the thought followed that the growth of new products and companies would continue unabated, and the prices of their stocks would just keep climbing for decades.

However, in each era the stock bubbles broke. In the 1929-32 bear market the Dow lost 90% of its value. In the 2000-2002 bear the Nasdaq lost 78% of its value.

The current bear market cannot be compared to either. Stock prices were certainly not in a bubble at the bull market top last October. It was the economy that was headed for trouble, the result of the bursting of the housing bubble, and the stock market rolled over into the current bear market in anticipation of a recession.

So the current bear market can more accurately be compared to previous bear markets that took place in anticipation of recessions, not to the two bear-markets that were related to stock market bubbles.

I believe it can be compared particularly to the period of 1973-75, when the worst recession since the 1930s Great Depression took place.

At that time there was also a world-wide shortage of oil.

There was a war in the middle east (the Yom Kippur War between Israel and Egypt/Syria).

There was the Arab oil embargo, which quadrupled the price of oil and gasoline to record levels, causing despair among consumers and businesses, not only due to the quadrupled prices, but because vehicles had to wait in long lines at gas stations for limited rations of gas.

The spiked up price of oil, combined with other problems, sank the economy into its worst recession since the Great Depression.

A previously popular president (Nixon) had fallen sharply out of favor, and was pre-occupied with his own problems (Watergate scandal), not much interested in the economy, and made a number of blunders, including instituting wage and price controls.

Consumer and investor confidence reached extreme lows.

The media was full of gloom and doom. The consensus expectation was that the economy was definitely on its way into a second Great Depression.

It wasn’t a credit crunch that made it extremely difficult for businesses and consumers to pay their bills or get mortgages, resulting in spiraling foreclosures and bankruptcies.It was inflation, which spiraled wildly out of control, reaching 14% a year, interest and mortgage rates soaring to15%. It became an ugly period of ’stagflation’, when jobs were being lost in large numbers yet prices of everything were soaring, significantly affecting the ability of consumers to meet living expenses.

Meanwhile, until 1979, when Paul Volcker was named Chairman of the Federal Reserve, no policy makers were making any effort to halt the out-of-control inflation spiral.

However, by then, 1979, the stock market, always looking ahead, had already ended the 1973-74 bear market, surging up 73% from its November low in 1974 to its high in 1976.

That the current bear market may be factoring in a recession as severe as that of the mid 1970s is not necessarily a reason for investors to despair now. (The time for that was at the year-ago top).

In factoring in the 1974-75 recession, the Dow declined 45.1% in the 1973-74 bear market, the worst bear market since the 1929-32 crash, and the next bull market began when fear and despair were at their most extreme.

The Dow was recently down 46.6% at its November low, the S&P 500 down 52.9%. And were all aware of the level of fear and despair.

Time to buy?

primarily, on how you answer the following 3 questions:

1. Will reselling be your primary or secondary focus? 2. Once

answered these three questions.

with superb tech support, reliable servers and excellent prices.

fear is removed. This reduction of risk, worry and stress is
worth a premium. Ask any website owner if they would rather pay
a little more for reliability, or stay up at night worrying

Another factor in deciding your prices is cost. Your number one

number one cost will be your time. What is it worth, and how
much time is involved?

If you answered yes to question number 2, your time investment
will be minimal. Customer support is a huge time expenditure,

Finally, you must look at your competition. In order to do this
properly, you must determine which market you will be competing
in.

In general, there are two markets for web hosting services.
These are the online market and the local market.

If you choose to market online, you will be forced to keep
prices extrememly low. You will also incur some fairly heavy
customer support costs. Because your prices will be lower, so
will your profit margin. This means one thing – VOLUME.

For the online operator, automation is crucial. The more
streamlined your system, the higher your profits and the lower
your blood pressure.

Let me interject one thing here, while we’re talking about
marketing. Streamlined does not mean neglecting your customers.
A little consideration goes a long ways in this business. If you
answer your customers emails, return their calls, take time to
listen to them, you’ll build a large base of loyal customers in
no time at all.

Regardless of your marketing approach, there is one more huge
question to answer before you begin.

Who will you be reselling for?

When choosing an upstream provider, pay particular attention to
the three R’s:

* Reliability * Resalability * Relationship

The company you resell for should, above all else, be impeccably
reliable.

Consider this scenario:

It’s 2 A.M. on a Wednesday morning. Your phone rings. It’s your
most valued client, and his website is down. You quickly check
your email, and find several more pleas for help. You dash off a

It’s 2 P.M. You receive a garbled email from your provider.

occur, you can do little more than call your provider. It’s

Resalability comes next on the list. Take a good look at the
product. Can you sell it? Would you buy it yourself? Are there
plenty of features and selling points?

Finally, consider the relationship you have with your provider.
Can you call the company and talk to a real person? The same
person each time? Do they remember your name? Do they answer
your emails promptly? Remember that your upstream provider is
the only link between you and the server. Having a strong
working relationship is vital to the success of your business.

Reselling web services can be an extremely profitable solution,
but, like any other business, you will do best if you do your
homework before jumping in.

Incidentally, it was later estimated that Joe had cost the company $250,000 in lost customers.
It is not enough to measure; you must measure the right things.

4. HIRE THE RIGHT EMPLOYEES

By far, the most effective way to be a great manager is to hire great employees. Of course, the problem is finding the few great candidates in a sea of resumes, so that is what this section is all about: a process for finding employees that is more effective and takes less time than the traditional process. But first, lets clear up a couple of myths.

Myth 1: Interviews are effective.

The exact number depends on the interviewer, but researchers have found that typical interview accuracy rates are only 30% better than random selection. Further, there is almost no correlation between how good someone thinks they are at interviewing and how effective they are. If you have never hired a dud employee, congratulations! If you have, read on.

Myth 2: Talking to references and evaluating past experience can ensure you make the right decision.

Not only are many employers too afraid of lawsuits to give bad references, some will even give excellent references to help rid themselves of problem employees. In general the only thing harder than finding a good employee is finding a bad reference.

Prior experience is an excellent indicator of how much money employees will want, but a poor indicator of how well they will actually perform.

Of course, interviews, reference and background checks are an essential part of the hiring process, but they should not be the sole criteria. Here is a more efficient process:

Create custom web forms for each job opening and set up business rules to prioritize and/or auto-reject candidates based upon information provided in the form. By this point, you will have eliminated about 95% of the applicants and can afford to schedule in-person interviews for the remainder with each member of the team.

Only hire candidates who achieve unanimous buy-in from team members. Immediately make a job offer, contingent upon reference, credit and criminal background checks. Do not keep them waiting or another employer may step in.

A disciplined, automated hiring process can not only free up your time and ensure you find the best possible candidate, it is objective and can be audited to demonstrate an absence of bias.

5. BE PROACTIVE

To provide proactive support you need to recognize and resolve issues before they become problems. This section describes how you can obtain early warning signs of pending issues and either resolve them in advance or reduce the severity from a disaster to a minor blip.

Answer Before Asked

Provide an FAQ at your website so that customers can get answers to common questions 24/7 without even asking your staff. The FAQ should be tightly integrated with the ticketing system so that you can publish the best answer to a new question with just a mouse click.

Plan for the Unexpected

Even with redundant power supplies, RAID hard drives, and ECC memory, any given server will eventually fail.

If you are hosting your support system, deploy hotswap redundant servers so that service is automatically transferred to the other server. If you are using a SaaS service, check that their SLA guarantees 99.5+% uptime, backed by a money back warranty. An SLA that just provides a pro-rata refund is worthless.

No matter how carefully you test, your own product and infrastructure will have problems.

Set up automatic monitoring and notify your customers of critical problems in other areas of your product infrastructure, before they call. When possible, include the resolution ETA.

Early Alerts of Changes

You need to have the right number of staff to handle an ever changing flow of new issues.
Do not just track the number of open issues, track the rate of new arrivals with a weekly trend chart.

Plan for a flood of new problems when a new product is released.

Handle Issues in Order

Service reps may try to inflate their closure rates by picking the easy issues to work on. This hurts both customers and other staff.

Use round-robin assignment or skill-based assignment of each issue to an individual rather than simply leaving it in a pool.

Make it easy for staff to open and work on the next issue in their queue.

Improve Staff Morale

Customer support is a tough job at the best of times and it is made even more frustrating by having to answer the same questions time and again.

Allow customers to self-register and submit problem reports or requests over the web 24/7, thus freeing your staff from manual data entry.

For customers who do call or submit problems, create a library of standard solutions that your staff can import into the ticket. This not only saves time, it helps prevent mistakes.

Anticipate Staff Changes

Staff vacations, sick-leaves and changes should be transparent to customers.

Make sure that your support system supports the rapid re-assignment of issues and can automatically re-assign issues that have been dormant for too long.

Survey Your Customers
